THHN/THWN Wire Specifications

1. Description

  • THHN: Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated.
  • THWN: Thermoplastic Heat and Water-resistant Nylon-coated.

2. Conductor Material

  • Copperor Aluminum (bare or coated).

3. Insulation

  • THHN: Flame-retardant thermoplastic (PVC).
  • THWN: Water-resistant thermoplastic (PVC).

4. Jacket

  • Nylonjacket for both THHN and THWN for additional protection.

5. Voltage Rating

  • 600 Volts.

6. Temperature Rating

  • THHN:
    • 90°C (194°F)dry locations.
  • THWN:
    • 75°C (167°F)wet locations.
    • 90°C (194°F)dry locations.

7. Standard Compliance

  • UL 83, UL 1063.
  • ASTM B3, ASTM B8.

8. Applications

  • Conduits, ducts, and open air wiring for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
  • Approved for use in both wetand dry

9. Available Sizes (AWG)

  • Copper: 14 AWG to 1000 kcmil.
  • Aluminum: 12 AWG to 1000 kcmil.

10. Ampacity (based on NFPA 70, NEC Table 310.16)

  • 14 AWG: 15 amps.
  • 12 AWG: 20 amps.
  • 10 AWG: 30 amps.
  • 8 AWG: 55 amps.
  • 6 AWG: 65 amps.
  • 4 AWG: 85 amps.
  • 2 AWG: 115 amps.
  • 1/0 AWG: 150 amps.
  • 2/0 AWG: 175 amps.

11. Color Coding (for standard conductors)
