Cast Housings with Finished Mounting Faces for Equipment OEMs

Key takeaway

RELIA manages the casting and finished mounting faces under one specification, so the housing reaches assembly with the required interfaces controlled.

For a cast-and-machined housing enquiry, we can begin with our cast gearbox-housing examples and cast parts with CNC machining. These are separate listing examples. They do not prove that your housing can be cast and machined under one approved route.

What this means for your project

We can discuss the delivered housing as one project, with casting geometry and finished mounting faces tied to the same drawing version. That helps your equipment team avoid accepting a raw casting whose locating bores or faces cannot be finished as required.

One Finished Part Drives the Decision

We can review the finished drawing across those stages so as-cast form, machining allowance and accepted faces answer the same equipment requirement. The quotation confirms the casting, finishing and inspection route used for your housing.

The Casting Method Depends on Geometry

Wall sections, cavities, material and production quantity influence which route merits review. A catalog listing for one die-cast housing does not make that process suitable for another shape. Define the finished housing and allow the production proposal to name its actual process. Review the casting part examples as examples of starting geometries; your finished housing drawing still decides what must be cast and then machined.

Machining Allowance Must Be Planned Early

Separate as-cast surfaces from bores and mounting faces that must be machined. The route review then has a concrete choice: include enough casting allowance and finish both critical interfaces under the approved housing revision, or revise the casting concept before a sample is made.

A complete-part quotation should identify that shared reference and who is responsible for the finished dimensions.

Datums Connect the Housing to the Machine

Specify which surfaces locate the housing and which bores align with moving parts. If the mounting faces are treated as isolated dimensions, the assembled machine may still be misaligned.

Material and Defect Acceptance Need a Basis

State the material grade, functional loads and any specified examination or acceptance criteria. Words such as high quality in a product title do not settle porosity, surface condition or strength. The project proposal should address the risks relevant to your housing.

The Housing Stays Controlled from Casting to Final Machining

For your housing, the casting allowance and finished interfaces remain under one drawing and one acceptance route.

One finished-housing drawing should control casting allowance, machined datums, material, acceptance features and the delivered condition. External processes and reports are agreed before production.

RELIA operates a sand-casting line, two spectrometers and CNC machining in its own factory. Regular sand castings cover 0.5–500 kg and cast-steel parts 1–500 kg, with larger special projects assessed from the drawing.

What a comparable order looked like

Real order RL-CS-2301: a European industrial-equipment manufacturer approved an approximately 80 kg cast-steel support after chemistry, dimensions, ultrasonic testing and mechanical checks. In 2023, five samples were completed in 35 days before 500–2,000-piece batches; gating was improved to reduce porosity.

Before release, match the finished-part drawing, material and inspection records to the exact housing you approved. Review the company profile or request the current ISO certificate copies.

Inspect the Delivered Condition

Our inspection records guide describes the evidence to request. Tie the actual inspection basis to the approved drawing version rather than rely on an as-cast photograph.

A Sample Can Expose Assembly Issues

Install the proposed housing with its intended mounts, bearings or cover if practical. Record the issues found and update the drawing before repeat production. A measured part and a functioning assembled part may answer different approval questions.

Send the Finished Housing Drawing

Send the delivered-part print, assembly references, material and quantity, marked machined faces and acceptance needs. Include the existing casting if you are changing suppliers. Share these details with us so we can discuss one complete-part candidate.
