A spiral-wound gasket build should identify the job of each component before a material choice is made. For a request involving a carbon steel outer ring, stainless grade 316 inner ring and winding, and graphite filler, define that combination as one assembly to be confirmed.

Allocate a material to every gasket component

The outer ring, inner ring, winding and filler should each have a named material requirement on the assembly specification. A carbon or stainless selection by itself cannot describe all four roles. If a particular steel grade and graphite filler are required, make those requirements explicit and confirm them for the complete gasket, rather than assuming that a general steel label defines its sealing construction.

Describe the ring arrangement on the flange drawing

Show which rings are required and provide the gasket inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness with units. Identify the mating flange face, standard and pressure class so the assembly can be reviewed against the actual seating arrangement. The exact component layout matters to the enquiry; a photograph of several ring forms or a broad dimensional range cannot establish the requested build.

Review the winding and filler for the service

Provide the medium and design temperature and pressure when requesting confirmation of the winding and filler combination. State any project documentation or standard requirements for that same assembly, and clarify whether the scope covers a complete gasket or individual components. Keeping the ring grades, winding material and graphite requirement in one component schedule makes this gasket request distinct, allowing fit and service compatibility to be assessed for the actual build before selection.
