This pipe tee page supports enquiries for a Schedule 40 carbon steel butt-weld configuration with an ASTM A234 WPB requirement. Start with the wall and diameter needed at each connection. The appropriate tee depends on the complete run and branch arrangement, the selected material grade and the applicable dimensional specification.

Specify the wall at every tee end

Give the outside diameter and required wall thickness for both run ends and the branch. Identify which dimensions represent nominal pipe sizes and which are actual measurements. State whether the branch must be equal or reduced, and show its position on the piping drawing. A single size selection does not describe the full three-ended fitting or establish that every end has the required wall.

Define the Sch40 and WPB requirements together

For the carbon steel configuration, state the required ASTM A234 WPB material specification and the applicable ASME B16.9 edition. Ask for confirmation that the requested Schedule 40 dimensions and any seamless-construction requirement apply to that same tee. Stainless Steel and Alloy alternatives require their own exact grades; their presence as material choices does not make them WPB equivalents.

Check the connection and service conditions

Identify the connection form and preparation at each intended welded end. Provide the mating pipe dimensions, design pressure, temperature and service medium so that fit and suitability can be assessed for the selected configuration. A schedule designation describes a dimensional requirement and does not by itself establish pressure capacity or chemical resistance. Before choosing the tee, obtain the dimensional drawing and material, construction and service qualification relevant to that exact request.
