A long- or short-radius butt-weld elbow request should start with the space available for the turn. Confirm the measured geometry needed by the pipe layout before selecting a carbon steel, stainless steel or alloy configuration for the elbow.

Define the radius through the pipe route envelope

Provide the centerline radius, turn angle and positions of both elbow ends on the layout drawing. Identify surrounding equipment or pipework that restricts the turning envelope. A long-radius and a short-radius requirement should be requested distinctly, with the actual dimensions confirmed for the chosen size. The labels alone do not establish the space occupied by a particular elbow or its fit between the adjoining runs.

Check the butt-weld arrangement at both ends

Give the pipe-end dimensions, wall thickness and required welding preparation for each connection. Confirm the intended end forms and identify any thread requirement separately rather than assuming one general connection label applies throughout. Keep the end positions and preparation with the radius drawing, so the proposed elbow can be reviewed as one routing component. A nominal-size choice does not establish the complete mating-end geometry by itself.

Request the rating for the chosen material and wall

Name the required steel grade and construction requirement within the selected material family. Provide the medium and design pressure and temperature when requesting the applicable service rating and documentation. An unrated class descriptor supplies no working-pressure value, and a resistance label does not replace compatibility review for the proposed grade. The final radius-specific elbow request should connect measured route geometry, both weld interfaces and material requirements before the part is accepted for service.
