A carbon steel blind flange enquiry starts with the closure that the joint needs to provide. Blind Flange and Socket Weld Flange are distinct choices for this product, so select the intended function before confirming the dimensions of the bolted interface.

Identify whether the flange closes or connects

For a blind-flange requirement, define the closure arrangement and its position on the opposing flange. For a socket-weld requirement, identify the pipe connection and provide the socket and pipe dimensions instead. These forms need different connection details; a reference photograph of an open bore does not establish the dimensions or construction of the blind closure being requested.

Place the facing and drilling on one joint drawing

Provide the nominal size, facing arrangement, bolt-circle diameter and hole pattern for the required flange. Include flange thickness and any dimensions that govern its clearance within the assembly. If the project specifies ANSI B16.5, state the applicable edition and obtain confirmation for the selected form. The broad size designation should be narrowed to the exact joint dimensions before the flange is accepted as a fit.

Assign grade and class to the chosen flange form

Specify the carbon steel grade and any forged-construction requirement for confirmation on the flange to be supplied. Select the applicable pressure class with the design temperature and pressure, rather than reading a range of class labels as one operating capability. Include the service medium and required inspection or material documentation in the enquiry. Keeping the closure or socket function, joint drawing and rating requirements together makes the intended carbon steel flange configuration clear.
