A straight tee enquiry needs a clear description of the two run ends and the branch connection. Use a drawing of the requested fitting to establish the selected form before comparing material or wall schedules. The enquiry should link all three interfaces to the proposed pipeline assembly and identify the documentation needed for that configuration.
Map the Run and Branch Connections
State the nominal size, outside diameter and wall requirement at each connection. Confirm whether the branch is intended to match the run size or reduce to another size, and have the drawing establish that relationship. Request the relevant run and branch dimensions so the fitting can be positioned within the installation. A single size selection does not fully specify a tee, and the quoted model should be identified before any interface dimensions are accepted.
Translate Schedule Labels into Required Walls
Identify the wall-schedule convention applicable to the pipe size and exact material specification. Where SCH40s or SCH80 is required, obtain the corresponding wall mapping for the selected connections instead of assuming that schedule labels establish one interchangeable thickness. Specify the steel grade separately and request material records for the quoted fitting. Define the butt-weld end preparation, manufacturing requirements and any surface-coating specification as distinct items in the enquiry.
Document the B16.9 and Branch-Service Basis
Give the applicable B16.9 edition and required conformity scope, then request the dimensional and manufacturing records needed to support that scope. Describe the fluid, operating pressure and temperature for assessment of the fitting and completed joints. Any class designation requires a defined standard and material basis before it can inform a pressure rating. Complete the review with the approved three-connection drawing, size and wall mapping, grade, joint details and documented service limits; coating appearance alone does not qualify corrosion or pressure performance.
