An ASME B16.20 spiral-wound gasket enquiry should first define what is included in the requested assembly. Confirm whether the requirement covers a complete gasket or a ring component before selecting dimensions and assigning materials to the sealing construction.
Identify the gasket assembly and included rings
Describe the required winding and filler, together with any inner and outer rings that belong to the assembly. Name each component on a gasket drawing or component schedule. A carbon or stainless selection by itself does not identify every part of a spiral-wound build, and an inner-ring requirement should not be treated as proof that the complete gasket is included in the supply scope.
Assign thickness to the correct gasket component
Provide the gasket inner diameter, outer diameter and required thickness, with units and the relevant drawing references. Clarify which component each thickness requirement describes. Identify the mating flange standard, nominal size, pressure class and facing so the complete gasket dimensions can be reviewed against the joint. A broad size or thickness range does not establish the exact arrangement needed for a particular flange face.
Confirm the B16.20 requirement for the chosen build
State the applicable standard edition and request confirmation of the construction and dimensions for the same gasket assembly. Provide the medium and design conditions so the winding and filler compatibility can be assessed together with the ring arrangement. Identify any inspection or documentation requirement for that build. The final spiral-wound gasket enquiry should connect component scope, assigned materials and flange-fit dimensions before the proposed assembly is accepted for the intended service.
