A gear-operated ball-valve enquiry should identify the valve and its manual operator as a single assembly. The gearbox arrangement, handwheel position and operating requirements need to be matched to the installation. Include any API 6D requirement with its exact scope, then obtain the selected-model documents needed to assess the proposed valve and operator together.
Specify the Valve and Gearbox Assembly
Request a section drawing for the valve and an assembly drawing showing the gearbox interface. Define the body, ball and sealing materials separately, with the exact grade or specification required for each component. Identify the model and operator combination under consideration so that material records and operating information refer to the same configuration. External appearance alone does not establish the internal support or seat arrangement.
Check Handwheel Access and Operating Duty
Describe the manual operating duty and obtain the gearbox selection and torque evidence for the proposed valve. Review the handwheel position and operating envelope against nearby pipework and equipment. Compare the flange drilling, facing, port and face-to-face dimensions with the mating pipeline drawing. Confirm the nominal size and interface before selecting an option, and ensure that the operator can be accessed in the intended installed position.
Define API 6D Scope and Service Limits
If API 6D is required, state the applicable edition and request the relevant model-specific conformity and scope records. Name the process medium and describe the pressure and service temperatures in a consistent unit system. Obtain the qualified pressure-temperature envelope and sealing compatibility for that assembly. A complete enquiry links the valve drawing, operator sizing, component specifications, connection dimensions and standard evidence. Review those items together before deciding whether the proposed gear-operated configuration meets the project requirements.
