Stainless Pipe and Heat-Exchanger Tube Requirements
Separate process pipe from heat-exchanger tube before comparing stainless grades or prices. The product standard, diameter-and-wall definition, surface condition and equipment joint may be different even when the material family is similar. RELIA manufactures industrial pipe, and the selected tube or pipe route needs a product-specific review. This guide helps your equipment team define the component, connect it to the drawing and request the material and dimensional evidence needed for repeat procurement.

RELIA Pipe Manufacturing and Tube-Scope Review
RELIA manufactures industrial pipe and reviews stainless equipment enquiries against the actual component role. A process connection, header and heat-transfer tube need different dimensional and inspection definitions. Our catalogue includes a 321 stainless heat-exchanger pipe reference and a chemical-fluid-transfer pipe enquiry. We confirm the selected grade, product standard and route before treating either as a replacement for an equipment drawing or precision-tube specification.

Pipe and heat-exchanger tube are different purchase items
Start by identifying whether you need process pipe, a header or a heat-exchanger tube. Pipe is commonly ordered through a nominal-size and wall-series system, while an equipment tube is often defined directly by outside diameter and wall. The governing product standard establishes the actual ordering and acceptance rules.
The 321 stainless catalogue reference supplies a material-family enquiry, not a confirmed range of finished heat-transfer tubes. A generic wide pipe-diameter field should not be presented as a precision-tube manufacturing range.
Catalogue references support the enquiry. The accepted drawing, material definition and quotation identify the supplied configuration.

The equipment defines dimensions and surface needs
For a heat-transfer tube, define diameter, wall basis, cut length, straightness and surface condition from the equipment design. State whether wall is specified as minimum or average where the applicable standard distinguishes them. Tube-sheet joints and exposed media add their own interface and material requirements.
For process pipe, keep the weld-end or flange interface aligned with the piping specification. The same stainless grade does not make tube and pipe dimensions or acceptance requirements interchangeable.
| Parameter | Purchase meaning |
|---|---|
| Section | OD and specified wall basis |
| Length and form | Cut length, straightness and any shaped path |
| Surface | Specified inner and outer condition |
| Joint | Tube-sheet or piping connection details |
The selected tube route needs its own review
A welded stainless route forms strip or plate and produces the selected seam; a seamless route creates a hollow section without that longitudinal weld. Further reduction, sizing, treatment and surface preparation depend on the selected product and specification.
RELIA confirms the actual route for the selected item. Cold-rolled, ERW and seamless terms in a catalogue cannot be combined into one universal process description, and a bright finish does not verify material grade or treatment.

Tube-sheet and piping interfaces need distinct details
A tube-sheet interface may depend on tube outside diameter, wall and the chosen joining detail. A process-pipe interface instead follows the specified piping joint and end preparation. These boundaries should remain separate on the equipment drawing.
Retain the actual pipe or tube section and its joining requirements in the equipment record. A tube-sheet joint and a process-pipe connection need separate dimensional and acceptance details.

Checks tied to the chosen product definition
The inspection plan should measure the features used by the equipment builder: selected diameter, wall, length, straightness, end condition and specified surface checks. Material-document review addresses the selected grade and delivery condition separately.
RELIA can review dimensional and material-document evidence and pre-shipment condition. Additional tests for the actual equipment service, such as specified examinations or witnessed tests, require a defined method and acceptance basis.

A material record does not replace an equipment drawing
Connect the supplied component to the equipment drawing before relying on a material certificate. A certificate identifies material information; it does not establish tube-sheet fit, finished bore or complete equipment suitability. Item-linked dimensional records make that distinction visible.
The stainless-flange and stainless-elbow guides support adjacent piping interfaces. This page keeps the equipment-tube definition explicit so an acceptable material candidate is not mistaken for a fully approved heat-exchanger component.

Straightness and surface protection continue to dispatch
Protect the specified internal and external surfaces and keep different lengths and grades identifiable. Long tube items need handling and support appropriate to their geometry; the packing definition should address the form actually ordered.
For repeat equipment production, RELIA can use the accepted drawing and inspection reference. Changes in tube-sheet detail, media, cleaning or material condition belong in the next technical review even when the outside diameter remains the same.
