This ASME B16.5 flange enquiry concerns an SS316L material requirement with the slip-on or socket attachment form to be confirmed. Define the actual pipe connection before reviewing the bolted joint and pressure designation. The enquiry should identify one selected form and grade, rather than combine general flange terms into an assumed configuration.

Identify slip-on bore or socket geometry

Show the pipe attachment required by the project and ask for the corresponding flange drawing. For a slip-on requirement, identify the bore and attachment details; for a socket requirement, request the socket dimensions and insertion arrangement. Check the actual selected form against the adjoining pipe. Mixed flange photographs may illustrate several neck or plate forms without defining the attachment of the component being considered.

Confirm SS316L and the standard-specific designation

Name the exact Stainless Steel specification and request confirmation of the SS316L requirement for the selected flange. Define the required construction and ASME B16.5 edition. Ask for the applicable pressure designation and material-specific pressure-temperature documentation, rather than treating a high-pressure label as an operating value. Carbon Steel options need their own grade specification and assessment.

Review the complete mating interface

Obtain facing, thickness, outside diameter and complete bolt-pattern dimensions on the selected drawing. Compare the flange with the mating part, intended gasket and fasteners, then check the pipe attachment against the joining procedure. Include the medium, design pressure and temperature with the enquiry. Before acceptance, confirm that the attachment geometry, grade, bolted interface and rating scope refer to one configuration. This provides the dimensions and documentation needed to assess the actual joint without assuming compatibility from the product name or surface appearance.
